As we enter spring, stress can also start to increase with the additional chores and tasks that we need to get done. Here are a few tips on how to reduce stress in your life and a couple ideas of self-care that can aid in stress reduction and benefit our health.

One of the best ways to reduce anxiety about a subject or task is action. A friend once told me that action is the solution for anxiety and it is very true.

1. Cleaning & Organizing: Now this may sound like it could cause more stress in our lives but in the end it provides a clean and organized space to help simplify our lives. Tackle one closet or room at a time when you begin this task and purge any items you have not used in the last year, remember having or you have duplicates of. When your environment is chaotic, it can create an atmosphere that breeds chaos and urgency.

2. Alone time: This can provide calmness and bring peace. Select an activity that is enjoyable to you. Maybe going for a run, reading book or taking a hot bath with a cup of tea is your preference. Alone time allows you to reset yourself and focus on you.

3. Eat a healthy meal: Self care meals do not have to be about glutinous, decadent food and it does not have to be about the extreme opposite with a plain kale salad that you dread eating. Find a healthy recipe that brings ingredients that you enjoy eating but is not high in the added sugars. I will be adding some healthy recipes in the upcoming months, so stay tuned but my recommendations for yummy but healthy options are homemade carnitas tacos with avocado, lime, cilantro and onion on top or Eggs Benedict but substitute roasted Brussels sprouts for the English Muffin (trust me on this one).

4. Get adjusted: How could I not include chiropractic care into a post about self-care? Adjustments directly impact your nervous system and can help you transition to from the flight or fight to rest and digest, which can reduce your blood pressure, production of stress hormones and muscle tension. So give us a call, stop in and spend 20 minutes focusing on your health. And grab a cup of tea or electrolytes from our hydration station in the front.

Self Care is Health Care and it is important to practice self-care for your mental and physical health. It does not have to be hours long but something as simple as 30 minutes for yourself.
