What do you think of when you someone says men's wallets? Does the scene from Seinfeld with George Costanza's outrageously large and exploding wallet come to mind? But crossing your legs can have a similar affect.
A thick wallet in one back pocket can cause you to lean to one side when seated just as crossing your legs does.
The body likes the head to be level and when it is not, it creates a way for this. The first part of the body that is affected is the pelvis, by sitting on an uneven surface or having a wallet in one pocket causes the pelvis to tilt. The spine connects to the pelvis through the sacrum then as you progress upward the lumbar and thoracic spine starts to curve laterally (to the side). Your shoulders then become unlevel and the body is strained.
One way to solve this issue is just how George Costanza did, grab a stack of napkins, fold it in half and level yourself out. Seems a little excessive and inconvenient, right? But it would work however it is not a long term solution. This is a sign to change your wallet.
Another solution is to thin down the wallet a little and only keep the necessities in it.
Or the best solution is to take your wallet out of your pocket when you sit down. There are various slim wallets that can help you with this change.
To ease the stress on the spine, remove the wallet or uncross your legs and start feeling the relief today.
